We are different from eachother; but even though the variety of our kind, we call ourselves Quessir (Elves).
There are however three elven kindred who can be referred too as Pure Elves: The Cala’Quessir (High Elves), The Mith’Quessir (Grey Elves) and the Taur’Quessir (Wood/Green Elves). It is not physically, but mentally that these elves evolved into different Elves.
The Cala’Quessir
The High Elves, also referred to as Deep Elves, Wise Elves, Light Elves, depending on where they come from. They are often the most open and friendly of the elves, and the most scholarly. Cala’Quessir are often more given to travel and adventure than their brethren, and more open to change. While at first they may seem a bit aloof or reserved, they know the value of friendship, whether with their own, or with the other Races.
Kindred to the Cala’Quessirr are Gold Elves (Mal'Quessir), sometimes known also as Sunrise Elves (Anoron'Quessir). They are highly civilized, even to the point of being entrenched in civilization, and they do not tolerate well either other races, nor even elves of other subraces. They are notoriously arrogant.
The Mith’Quessir
The Grey Elves, Elves of the Twilight. The Mith’Quessir are the most private and reclusive of all elves, viewing themselves as protectors of good and viewing other races with a bit of disdain. They usually believe firmly in retaining the purity of the elven line, and for this reason almost never marry outside their race. They are very known for their love of the sea.
Kindred to the Mith’Quessir are Moon Elves (Ithil'Quessir) or Silver Elves (Celeb'Quessir). These subraces are more tolerant of other races than the Gold Elves. They are more adventurous than Gold Elves and the two subraces do not get on well at all, because Gold Elves see them as inferior, calling them grey elves, which term is to a Moon Elf the highest degree of insult; the elven word suggests the dross (offal) left over when smelting silver.
Taur’Quessir
The Wood Elves, Green Elves. The Taur’Quessir are true people of the forest, preferring to dwell among trees and more able to hear the voices of creatures of the wood, and in particular trees, than any other. They prefer a simple life than complex civilization, but they are an emotional people who live according to the heart. They are independent and not eager to welcome strangers to their forests. They tend in politics toward neutrality.
Gruagach are kindred to the Taur’Quessir who live in deep pristine forests of otherwise unpopulated areas. While all wood elves are considered wild, the Gruagach are often thought downright viciously barbaric. Their xenophobic nature makes them absolutely intolerant of other races, to the point of considering violence a matter of course.
While these small facts often hold true, because of the times and the Realms we live in we are by no means bound by them. We are forced to be more open with all for we are an adaptable people given to do whatever it takes to make peace with our surroundings.
